Early to bed, early to rise…

It’s not even 6:00 yet and I’m wide awake and blogging.  You must understand that I pride myself on my ability to sleep.  I love to sleep.  For the last couple of days, though, I’ve been unable to sleep like I desperately want to.

Part of my inability to sleep may be caused by what is making me so very tired to begin with.  Our mini-van broke down a few months ago and has been sitting in our driveway waiting for me to decide what to do with it.  We got some estimates from a few garages to fix it, but the cheapest was $3500!  One shop suggested we could save a couple hundred by just replacing the engine.  I was pretty sure I knew the problem, but had never done that type of repair work before.

So, Friday morning I started pulling the engine apart.  By the end of Saturday I had most of the pieces of the motor apart and had parts spread out throughout my garage and the back end of the van.  Monday I got most of it back together and yesterday I put the finishing touches on it.  It runs… for now.  so we’ll see how it goes.

The downside of this work is that my muscles are really sore and my hands are a bit swollen (and oil stained).  The way I see it, though, is that if I get a little sore and loose a little sleep and yet am able to fix our vehicle and save about $3000 it would be well worth it.

Post Modern Delay

Thursday and Friday were crazy busy for me, so I was unable to get to part four on postmodernism.  For a postmodern, it wouldn’t matter much.  For all my modernist readers, however, the unexpected change could cause some internal tension. Part of the delay was in the changes we’ve made in our auditorium this week. Continue Reading

Benefits of Being Multi-Cultural

I’ve said several times that my children will benefit from growing up in such a culturally diverse community.  In the last 24 hours I’ve received first hand benefits from being in such a place.   We made the drive up to Columbia, MD last night for their annual Christmas Eve service.  We were terribly late,Continue Reading

Special Saturday Edition

Brad, the dryer is running but it isn’t heating. That’s the way I ended my Friday night.  Like most people (er, men maybe), I had a series of thoughts that went through my head.  The first was, "What did you do to it?"  See, that just wasn’t right.  Why was that my first thought?  WhyContinue Reading
