The coffee in Brazil is incredible! I love it. It’s funny, though, because they drink the coffee here in little, bitty plastic cups. They are slightly larger than your typical communion cup. They have one or two, then move on. All of the restaurants and grocery stores have coffee set up with little cups for you to have on your way out.
I decided I wanted some coffee to take back with me, so I stopped by a grocery store last night. I was very tired, and as usually happens when I get very tired I was also very prone to laughing. In college some of the other guys labeled it the "Slappy Zone". That place you go when you are sort of loosing control of yourself from fatigue but can still use good manners.
While looking for the coffee, I happened down the paper goods aisle and came to the toilet paper. Something about Brazil that you may not know is that until recently you couldn’t flush the toilet paper in the toilet. The paper was thick and the water pressure was low, so it would clog the systems. Now, both problems have been fixed, so flush away the next time you are here.
What struck me as funny were the names of the brands of toilet paper. There were four in this store: Bob, Snob, The Residence, and Chiffon. Chiffon I could go with, especially when traveling internationally. The other three cracked me up. I got all new ideas for colloquialisms about having to go to the bathroom. I need to go take up "Residence". I’ve got to go talk to "Bob". I’m not touching "Snob", but if you play a little synonym game with the word I’m sure you’ll find the humor.
Is it a little silly and immature? Yes! But you never know what will happen… In The Slappy Zone!
